If the original waterproofing was done without the correct bond breakers, or if incompatible primers or materials were used, small tears or separations can form in the membrane.
At the same time, grout can begin to crack, water can seep through, and mould can take hold behind the scenes. Suddenly, you’ve got a leak.
How We Do It Differently
- Tailored solutions — From re-grouting and sealing to full on-tile membranes and tray replacements, we match the fix to the fault
- Grout joints allowed to flex — Movement prone grout joints are caulked with a premium polysiloxane that’s compatible with our membrane
- Seamless finish — In many cases all grout joints are caulked in showers and balconies where movement is anticipated. The polysiloxane is tooled off flush with adjoining tiles, in preparation for the seamless membrane to follow.
- Clear, flexible membranes — Applied at a thickness of 500-800 microns, our two coat, clear, p5 rated trafficable and UV resistant polyurethane membranes are applied directly over your tiles to stop leaks without removing them
- Premium polysiloxane sealant — Used at wall-to-floor junctions to mimic the flexibility of a proper bond breaker
- No epoxy at stress points — We avoid rigid epoxy grout at movement-prone areas to prevent cracking and failure down the line

A Word of Warning About Suitable Product Offerings
- On many call outs we are greeted by distressed home owners who have had someone install an in-elastic product such as an epoxy grout, only to see the leak resurface 1-2 years later
- Whilst epoxy grout has excellent water repellent properties being non porous, it cures as a solid and offers no degree of elasticity
- Natural building movement, settlement, thermal expansion and contraction vary in magnitude from one structure to the next (timber structure vs concrete) but are present in all. If you are experiencing water ingress, movement in your structure is likely to be more prevalent in one form or another. Please see the image below and note how the epoxy grout has separated from the tiles. We unfortunately see this failure on a very regular basis:
- The rigid products and epoxy grouts used by many other providers can be chemically stable for 25+ years. As such, many offerings will warrant the full 25 years, however will often exclude "natural movement". Should the product fail due to common structural movement, the warranty may be void
- In contrast, our Remworks polysiloxane + membrane system offers 250-800% elongation at break, flexing with your structure, and allowing flex from one tile to the next as foot traffic occurs. We offer a genuine warranty and post service support for peace of mind.
Can You Fix My Leaking Shower or Balcony Without Removing Tiles?
In most cases — yes, we can. If your shower floor has the right drainage fall and the screed beneath your tiles is still structurally sound, there’s usually no need to rip up tiles to stop the leak.
Here’s how you can check for yourself:
No pooling? Make sure water isn’t collecting in one corner of the shower — proper fall to waste is key.
Tiles still solid? Press down on the floor tiles. They should feel firm underfoot.
Drummy tiles? Lightly tap a few tiles. If they sound hollow, the screed underneath may be compromised.
